The Razorback Hockey program is excited to announce another pair of commitments:  F-Cameron Faranetta and D-Jacob Arden.

Cameron Faranetta, a 5’6″ forward from Allen, Texas, joins the Razorbacks after playing last season for the McKinney Lightning.  A decade-long veteran of the sport, Faranetta plans to study Finance/Economics upon enrollment.  Reflecting on his decision to attend the University, Faranetta commented, “the hockey program is very focused on academic performance while at the same time developing National Championship caliber teams.”

Jacob Arden, a 6’1″ 190 lb defenseman, joins Arkansas from Potomac, Maryland.  Arden, who also plans to study Finance/Economics, played last season for a Winston Churchill Hockey Club that won the 2015 Maryland State Championship.  During the 2014-15 season, Arden contributed 6 goals and 10 assists.  He was recognized as a 2015 Washington Post All-Met First Team Defenseman and a 2015 Montgomery All Gazette First Team Defenseman.  Said Arden, “Arkansas hockey will give me the opportunity to play high level college hockey while receiving a strong education.”  He added, “from what I’ve already experienced, the Coaching Staff holds the players accountable for their performance on the ice and in the classroom.”

Since 2009, the Arkansas hockey program has amassed an overall record of 161-48-4, including three trips to the Division III National Tournament and five SECHC conference playoff tournament championships.  The program will field two teams next season–one at the Division I level (WCHL) and one at the Division III level (SECHC).  The University of Arkansas was the first SEC school to field a Division I ACHA program and is currently the only SEC school with two hockey teams.

The Razorback Hockey program is excited to announce another pair of commitments:  F-Jackson Greer and G-Josh Friedenberger.

Jackson “Jack” Greer, a 5’9″ forward from Houston, Texas, played last season for The Woodlands High School varsity team and Team Houston Hitmen midget major.  In 27 games for The Woodlands last season, Greer notched 16 goals to go along with 22 assists.  A member of two Texas Tier II State Championship teams (2008-09 & 2010-11), Greer had this to say about joining the Razorback program:  “[a]fter meeting Coach Gallini along with some of the players, I saw how serious the program was and I just had to be a part of it.”  He also commented, “Arkansas Hockey is growing fast and it shows no sign of slowing down.  I’m excited to be part of its growth.”

Josh Friedenberger joins Arkansas from Nolensville, Tennessee, where he played goaltender for Ravenwood High School.  Friedenberger commented, “I chose the University of Arkansas due to the fact the coaching staff intends to develop disciplined players on the ice and develop young men of character, integrity, and a passion for life and the game.”  In his time prior to Arkansas, Friedenberger was recognized in 2007 as MVP of the 38th Annual Wayne Gretzky International Hockey Tournament and backstopped his Tier II 14 & under team to a 2010 National Championship.  In 14 appearances for Ravenwood during the 2013-14 season, Friedenberger notched one shutout and posted a stout 2.09 GAA.  He replicated that success in 11 regular season appearances for Ravenwood during the 2014-15 season, when Friedenberger posted a 1.66 GAA that included two shutouts.  “Coach Gallini is committed to building a program that is not only successful today, but will continue to grow and be successful in years to come.”

The Razorback Hockey program is excited to announce a trio of commitments:  D-Anthony Ashmore, F-Patrick Husband, and D-Zachary Palmer.

Anthony Ashmore, a 6’0″ 205 lb. defenseman from Scottsdale, Arizona, played last season for the AHSHA Premier U18 team.  Appearing in 29 games, Ashmore notched 4 goals to go along with 6 assists.  Selected for recognition last season as an All-State Defenseman, Ashmore had this to say about his decision to attend Arkansas:  “I chose to attend the University of Arkansas to contribute to the continued success of a tremendous hockey program that Coach Gallini and his staff have built.”  Ashmore added, “I was also drawn to the rich academic history of the University and its business school. The hockey program itself has an inherent family culture that is hard to find, and ultimately helped me make my final decision.”

Patrick Husband comes to Arkansas by way of Gaithersburg, Maryland, where the 5’10” forward played for both the Piedmont Predators and Damascus High School.  In his time with the Predators last season, where Husband served as Captain, he potted 5 goals and added 5 assists in 34 games.  Husband also finished the 14-15 season +12.  When asked why he chose Arkansas, Husband said, “I want to complete at the most competitive level that I can; the Razorback Hockey program offers that and much more.”  Husband also commented, “[a]fter speaking with the coaching staff and following the team the past couple of seasons, I’m excited to be joining such an excellent organization.”

Zach Palmer played last season for a decorated DJHA Dallas Penguin team that won the Texas Amateur Hockey Association U18 Tier II championship, became the Dallas Stars Travel Hockey League champions, and received a bronze medal at the 2015 U18 National Championships.  A native of Frisco, Texas, Palmer played in 58 games where he scored 2 goals and added 10 assists.  Palmer, a 5’10” defenseman, said he chose Arkansas because he “want[s] to contribute to the success of the Arkansas Hockey program.”  He added, “I feel like playing for the Razorbacks was a good choice for my hockey career.”

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that Christophe Jobin has formally signed to play at Arkansas.  A 5’9″ goaltender from Flower Mound, Texas, Jobin played last season for the NAPHL AAA HC Dallas program and, prior to that, completed two seasons with the Texas Tornado 16U program.

During his career, Christophe has amassed several significant accolades for his goaltending including participation on two teams that made it to USA Hockey Nationals.  He won the goaltender skills competition at the 2010 USA Hockey Nationals, was selected to participate at the USA Hockey Summer Festival in 2011, and played in the NAPHL All-Star game when he was just sixteen.

Said Jobin, “I decided on the University of Arkansas because I am impressed by how the program is run by Coach Gallini and his staff.  The amount of success the program has already reached is very impressive.”  He added, “at Arkansas, I feel I can grow as a hockey player and as a young man. The players I’ve met have already made me feel like a member of the team from the get go.”

The Razorbacks today announced their 2015-16 schedule for the program’s Division III American Collegiate Hockey Association team. The schedule features 14 weekend games at The Jones Center for Families in Springdale.

Coming off its fifth SECHC Championship and third National Tournament berth, the 2015-16 Division III Razorbacks will have big shoes to fill in this, a challenging 31 game regular season slate. The regular season opens with back-to-back home weekends including a pair of conference games against SEC rival, LSU, on Sept. 25 & 26 at the Jones Center.

The Razorbacks continue their seventh campaign in the Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference on the road against Vanderbilt in October—a first ever trip for the program. That same month, the Hogs play host to a pair of first-time visitors to the the Jones Center—Kennesaw State and TCU.

Highlights throughout the remainder of the season include a trip to Dallas for a three game showcase weekend hosted by Dallas Baptist University, a first-ever trip to Rock Island, Illinois, for a pair of games against Augustana, and two consecutive home weekends to close out 2015 (Southern Illinois and Kansas).

The second semester kicks off with a three game swing through East Alton, Illinois, to take on Southern Illinois and McKendree University.  The post-season begins with the SEC playoffs in Nashville on Feb. 5, 6, & 7 followed by ACHA Regionals the following weekend.

VIEW 2015-16 FULL DIII SEASON SCHEDULE

The Razorback Hockey team is excited to announce that Jean Cobo has formally signed to play at Arkansas.  A 6’0″ forward from Mexico City, Mexico, Cobo played for the past three seasons in the Western States Hockey League for the Dallas Snipers.  Last season, his last with the Snipers, Cobo set career highs for himself in goals (10), assists (18), points (28), and power play points (7).

An alum of the IIHF gold medal U20 Team Mexico, Cobo also played for the Dallas Ice Jets organization before his time with the Snipers.  Said Cobo, “I chose the Arkansas program because it shows a lot of potential where I can develop my hockey skills and play very competitive hockey.”  He added, “although I had D3 NCAA offers I think Arkansas can offer more to my development through their coaching and the players currently on the team.”

The Arkansas Men’s Ice Hockey team is now interviewing University of Arkansas students for 2015-16 board positions.  Academic credit may be available.

We are five-time winners of the Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference post-season playoff tournament (09-10, 10-11, 12-13, 13-14, 14-15)  and have won the regular season SEC-West conference championship for the past five consecutive seasons (09-10, 10-11, 11-12, 12-13, 13-14).  In our short history, we have appeared at Nationals three times (09-10, 13-14, 14-15), made three appearances at the South Regional tournament (09-10, 10-11, 12-13), and are consistently ranked in the top ten in our region during the regular season.

Beginning with the 15-16 season, Coaches Desjardins and Hesse will return to the Razorback Hockey program as key pieces of the Division III staff.

Coach Hesse begins a new role as the Division III Associate Head Coach, working closely with Coach Thomas on practice planning, roster decisions, and team strategy.  Said Coach Hesse about his new role, “I am extremely proud to continue to work in this program.  I’ve learned a lot from Coaches Gallini and [Rick] Desjardins the past three seasons as Student Assistant Coach and President and I’m excited to showcase that knowledge.”

Prior to the 15-16 season, Coach Hesse served in a number of roles for the program, including as a player (11-12), Club President (13-14 & 14-15), and Student Assistant Coach (12-13, 13-14, and 14-15).  About his new role he added, “I intend for us to continue the success that the Division III team has had in recent years.”  Coach Hesse is a 2015 graduate of the University and a Level III USA Hockey certified coach.

For his part, Coach Brendan Desjardins returns for the 15-16 season as the team’s Head Goaltending Coach working with both teams’ goaltenders and will additionally serve as the Division III team’s primary assistant coach.

Coach B. Desjardins has, like Coach Hesse, served in numerous roles for the program.  Coach Desjardins played for the Razorbacks for three seasons (09-12), during which time he served as Club President (11-12) and team captain (11-12).  Said Coach Desjardins about this new opportunity, “it is an unbelievable privilege to be able to continue helping to develop our young men into well-rounded, successful adults.”

A graduate from the University twice over (2011 & 2012), Coach Desjardins added, “I am excited to get my hands dirty working with some fresh faces on the team, especially when it comes to developing new goaltenders.”  Razorback goaltenders under Coach Desjardins’ tutelage have flourished as evidenced by, among other accomplishments, Kevin Scheer’s receipt of two conference playoff MVP honors (2013 & 2014) and Spencer Mulgrew’s 2.67 GAA (2014-15).

When reflecting on his many roles with the team, Coach Desjardins commented, “when I was on our first successful team over six years ago, we did not have anywhere close to the talent pool that we have now, yet we still competed at the highest level.”  A Level III certified coach with USA Hockey, Coach Desjardins closed by adding, “the work ethic, compete level, and focus that Coach Gallini has instilled as the main components to our core culture has given our teams the ability to compete every year, regardless of the composition of individuals we have on the team.”

Coaches Hesse and Desjardins will look to carry on the Division III team’s history of success, a history that includes five conference titles and three trips to the National Tournament.
