The Razorbacks will begin their thirteenth campaign at The Jones Center this Friday and Saturday against Dallas Baptist University (DII). Friday’s game will be at 7:30 pm, with the rematch scheduled for 3 pm on Saturday.

The Ice Hogs are coming off a 16-14 season and a trip to the Pacific Regionals in 2018-19. Arkansas boasts an all-time record of 4-0 against Dallas Baptist, with a combined total score of 30-2 over those four games, with the last meeting between the two opponents coming in the 2015-16 season.

Even with the Ice Hogs’ return to a one-team structure, many fans will see familiar faces donning the Arkansas Razorbacks jersey. The 2019-20 season will see 12 returners from last year’s DI roster and 8 from the DIII squad. Joining them are 9 new faces for a total of 29 rostered players. Of those 12 returning D1 players are leading scorers Chris Stovall, Alex Kueser, and Dakota Gottlieb, along with WCHL All-Rookie Cameron McAtee and goalie Jozef Dusenka. SECHC MVP and First-Team SECHC forward Griffin Sugasawara, First-Team SECHC defenseman Tyler Valdron, and Second-Team SECHC goalie Alex Kalmes will also be returning to the lineup this year from last year’s DIII squad.

One new Razorback who is really looking forward to this weekend is sophomore transfer Jordan Deskeere, who transferred from DBU this offseason. When asked in June about the opportunity to play against his former team, Deskeere remarked, “I want to play in that game more than anything right now, representing the better school and better club.”

Tickets for Friday and Saturday’s games can be purchased at the door by cash or check for just $5 for adults, $3 for students with ID, and free for children under 12. There will be a team-signed, game-worn jersey raffle on Friday night and the NWAHA squirt team will be playing a short game during the first intermission. Both games will be broadcast live and available on-demand here.

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that F-Michael Ellis and D-Leyton Andres have committed to Arkansas. Both players come from Frisco High School in Frisco, TX.

Michael Ellis, a product of the Dallas Stars Elite program, joins the Razorbacks after playing both for Frisco High School and the Stars Elite during his senior season. Ellis, a 5’11” 195lbs. right-shot forward put up 11 goals and 6 assists in 15 games for Frisco High, as well as 3 goals and 1 assist in 18 games for the Dallas Stars Elite.

Ellis, who plans to study mechanical engineering, commented, “Hockey is something that I grew up loving to do in a place where hockey hasn’t been very big.” Regarding his commitment to the University of Arkansas, Ellis said, “I chose the university because the campus is unbelievable. I am also a huge fisherman and hunt a lot as well and will have that all around me.”

Leyton Andres, joins the Razorbacks after two seasons with Frisco High School. Andres, a 5’10” 160lbs. defenseman, posted 2 goals and 19 assists in 29 games with Frisco. Prior to playing high school hockey, Andres played 54 games over 3 seasons with the Dallas Penguins U16 and Dallas Stars Elite Bantam Major programs.

Andres, who plans to study business and marketing, explained, “Hockey is special to me because it teaches me life lessons that will translate to the rest of your life.” Andres says, “I chose Arkansas because of the great business school, amazing athletic following, and the rich traditions the school has built.”

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that D-Matthew Butler has committed to Arkansas. Butler, a 5’11” 161lbs. right-shot defenseman, joins the Razorbacks after a standout final junior season with the Louisiana Drillers of the NA3HL.

Butler, who hails from Wylie, TX, joins the Razorbacks after posting 5 goals and 36 assists in 46 games, as well as an impressive +24 rating with the Drillers. Prior to his season with Louisiana, Butler played for the Minnesota Iron Rangers in the SIJHL with fellow Razorback commit Brendan Bomay. Butler played his U18 hockey with the Dallas Penguins U18 program.

Butler, who is one of thirteen children, plans to study computer engineering at the U of A. When talking about his love for hockey, he said, “Hockey’s always been the constant in my life connecting me to people all over the country. Having brothers who play hockey meant a lot of family time was spent at the rink.” Regarding his commitment to the University of Arkansas more specifically, Butler said, “I chose the university because the non-resident tuition award made it very affordable and I have friends and family who are already attending.”

“I first watched Matthew play in Minnesota this year, and he immediately stood out. He’s an extremely mobile defenseman who creates rushes and can also protect the front of his own net,” said Andrew Falls, Associate Head Coach. “He knows how to play all areas and we can’t wait for him to arrive in the fall.”

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce two more commits for the 2019-20 season: F-Kyle Patterson and D-Joe Schroeder. Both come from the St. Louis, MO area.

Kyle Patterson, a Wentzville, MO native, comes to Arkansas after completing his youth hockey career with the Chesterfield Falcons and Timberland High School. The 5’10” 160 lbs. right-shooting forward Patterson contributed 1 goal and 2 assists with Chesterfield in 15 games and 11 goals and 6 assists with Timberland in 11 games. In 2017-18, Patterson tallied 10 goals and 9 assists in 21 games for Timberland High School, while also posting 4 goals and 13 assists in 57 games with the St. Louis AIC Prospects U18.

Patterson plans to earn a degree in mechanical engineering starting in the fall. When asked about his love for hockey, he commented, “Hockey is special to me because I think that it is the greatest and hardest sport to play in the world.” Regarding his commitment to the University of Arkansas, Patterson said, “I chose Arkansas because it gave me the chance to play for a great hockey program while going to a big school with a good engineering program.”

Joe Schroeder joins Razorback hockey after finishing up his youth hockey career with CarShield AAA 18U and Westminster Christian Academy. Schroeder is a 5’7” 170 lbs. right-shot mobile defenseman who contributed 4 goals and 13 assists in 24 games with Westminster in 2018-19, helping them qualify for the Wickenheiser Cup playoffs.

Schroeder, who plans on studying agricultural business, stated, “I chose the University of Arkansas because I know I can get a good education here and I love SEC football. With regard to his love for hockey, Schroeder said, “Hockey requires a team effort to succeed and it’s a unique game that takes skill and toughness to play.”

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that F-Zach Wilson has committed to Arkansas. The 6’ 170 lbs. right-shooting forward recently completed his junior league career playing for the St. Louis Jr. Blues in the NA3HL.

Wilson, a Ballwin, Missouri, native and product of the St. Louis AAA Blues youth program, joins the Razorbacks after two years of junior hockey. In 2017-18, Wilson played for the New Jersey Hitmen in the USPHL Premier, tallying 28 points(11 goals and 17 assists) in 44 games. For the 2018-19 season, Wilson returned home to play for the Jr. Blues, posting 33 points (13 goals and 20 assists) in 46 games.

Wilson plans to study business in the fall. Regarding his commitment to the University of Arkansas, Wilson said, “I chose the University of Arkansas because of how great a school it is academically and how historical and beautiful the campus is.” Zach comes from a hockey family, with his brother Jacob currently an Assistant Captain for Arizona State’s NCAA DI team that advanced to the NCAA tournament this past year. Zach even cites it as one of the reasons he loves hockey, stating, “Hockey has run in my family for generations and I’ve been playing since I could walk.”

“Zach is a very talented forward and has played for some of the best programs in the country,” said Andrew Falls, Associate Head Coach. “He’s going to bring both offensive ability and grit to our forward core.” Jr. Blues Head Coach Chris Flaugher commented, “Zach was a great, steady hand for us this season. He worked hard whenever he touched the ice and did a lot of little things that don’t show up on the stat-sheets.”

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that D-Jordan DeSkeere has committed to Arkansas. DeSkeere, a 5’9” 168lbs. right-shot defenseman, joins the Razorbacks after spending his freshman year playing for Dallas Baptist University.

DeSkeere, originally from McKinney, TX, joins the Razorbacks after posting 10 assists in 26 games during his freshman year at DBU. Prior to his one year with DBU, DeSkeere played for the McKinney Ice Hockey Club Varsity team and recorded 1 goal and 6 assists in a 16-game senior season.

DeSkeere plans to major in marketing at the U of A. DeSkeere attributes the friendships and memories that he takes from every season to developing his love of hockey. Regarding his commitment to the University of Arkansas, DeSkeere said, “I chose the university because it’s close to home and has a great hockey program.” When asked about the opportunity to play against his former team in the season-opening weekend on September 6, DeSkeere said, “I want to play in that game more than anything right now, representing the better school and better club.”

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that D-Grant Fletcher has committed to Arkansas. Fletcher, a 6’3” 180lbs. right-shot defenseman, joins the Razorbacks after three seasons of AAA Midget hockey in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League.

Fletcher, originally from Plano, TX, joins the Razorbacks after two seasons with the Colorado Rampage Tier 1 program. In his final season, Fletcher had 5 assists and helped the Rampage finish second in the T1EHL regular season. Prior to his time with Colorado, Fletcher played for the Dallas Stars Elite U15 program, also in the T1EHL.

Fletcher plans to major in finance starting in the fall. When asked about his love for hockey, Fletcher commented, “I fell in love with hockey the first time I saw it and it has been my passion ever since. I love the speed, the brotherhood, the challenges and the competition. I have made lifelong friendships and had so many great experiences because of hockey.” Regarding his commitment to the University of Arkansas, Fletcher said, “I chose the university because it’s fairly close to home, has a great business school, and I have a lot of buddies also attending the University. This is the place where I want to be.”

“Grant is a smooth skating defenseman who uses his long range and height to his advantage. At just 18, he’ll be one of the tallest players in the program,” said Andrew Falls, Associate Head Coach. “We got to see him at the prospect camp in June and we were very impressed with his hockey sense as well.”

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that D-Dawson Miller has committed to Arkansas. Miller, a 6’3” 175lbs. right-shot defenseman, joins the Razorbacks after one season with the Dallas Snipers of the WSHL.

Miller, originally from Argyle, TX, joins the Razorbacks after posting 2 goals and 10 assists in 43 games during the 2018-19 season. Prior to his season with the Snipers, Miller played for the Dallas Blackhawks Elite 18U program in the highly-regarded North American Prospects Hockey League.

Miller plans to major in broadcast journalism at the U of A. When talking about his love for hockey, he said, “Hockey is special to me because of the bond you develop with your teammates.” Regarding his commitment to the University of Arkansas, Miller commented, “I chose the University of Arkansas because the school has a strong broadcasting department and because the campus is beautiful.”

“We’re excited to have Dawson come to Fayetteville in the fall,” said Andrew Falls, Associate Head Coach. “Dawson brings more size to a defensive core that will be one of the strongest in the country.”

The Arkansas Men’s Ice Hockey team has won the Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference post-season playoff tournament six times (09-10, 10-11, 12-13, 13-14, 14-15, 17-18) and and the regular season SEC-West conference championship five times (09-10, 10-11, 11-12, 12-13, 13-14). In its short history, team has appeared at Nationals four times (09-10, 13-14, 14-15, 17-18), made numerous appearances at the regional tournament, and is consistently ranked in the top ten in our region during the regular season.

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that F-Brendan Bomay has committed to Arkansas. The 6’ 185 lbs. right-shooting forward recently completed his junior league career playing for the Potomac Patriots in the USPHL Premier.

Bomay, a Big Rapids, Michigan, native, joins the Razorbacks after captaining the Potomac Patriots. In his first full season in Potomac, Bomay contributed 23 total points (13 goals and 10 assists) in 35 games. Bomay played for the Thief River Falls Norskies and Minnesota Iron Rangers in the SIJHL for the 2017-18 season.

Bomay, who plans to study biomedical engineering, commented, “I’ve been playing hockey since I was about 5 years old in a town that lives and breathes hockey. I was also born the night the Detroit Red Wings won the cup in 1998. I was named after Brendan Shanahan, so I guess you could say I was born into it.” Regarding his commitment to the University of Arkansas more specifically, Bomay said, “The minute I stepped on campus it felt like home. I love the people I met and just loved the culture that surrounds the area. It made me feel like I was a part of a family.”

“Brendan is a solid, strong two-way center that can play both ends of the ice,” said Associate Head Coach Andrew Falls. “Brendan brings a great defensive game with the added ability to produce offense, as well as crucial leadership qualities and we are excited to have him in Arkansas this year.”
