Razorbacks add two more Dallas-area natives

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that F-Michael Ellis and D-Leyton Andres have committed to Arkansas. Both players come from Frisco High School in Frisco, TX.

Michael Ellis, a product of the Dallas Stars Elite program, joins the Razorbacks after playing both for Frisco High School and the Stars Elite during his senior season. Ellis, a 5’11” 195lbs. right-shot forward put up 11 goals and 6 assists in 15 games for Frisco High, as well as 3 goals and 1 assist in 18 games for the Dallas Stars Elite.

Ellis, who plans to study mechanical engineering, commented, “Hockey is something that I grew up loving to do in a place where hockey hasn’t been very big.” Regarding his commitment to the University of Arkansas, Ellis said, “I chose the university because the campus is unbelievable. I am also a huge fisherman and hunt a lot as well and will have that all around me.”

Leyton Andres, joins the Razorbacks after two seasons with Frisco High School. Andres, a 5’10” 160lbs. defenseman, posted 2 goals and 19 assists in 29 games with Frisco. Prior to playing high school hockey, Andres played 54 games over 3 seasons with the Dallas Penguins U16 and Dallas Stars Elite Bantam Major programs.

Andres, who plans to study business and marketing, explained, “Hockey is special to me because it teaches me life lessons that will translate to the rest of your life.” Andres says, “I chose Arkansas because of the great business school, amazing athletic following, and the rich traditions the school has built.”

The University of Arkansas Men’s Hockey team plays in the Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference. The 2019-20 season will be the team’s thirteenth season as a member of the ACHA competing in Division III. The team’s schedule can be found here.
