After four years with the Razorbacks, Kueser compiled 80 goals and 79 assists for a total of 159 points in 103 games. Kueser was also named a 2020 ACHA Academic All-American. Talking about his time playing for the Hogs, Kueser said, ”Throughout my time on the team, I made a lot of memories from winning SEC’s, to going undefeated at nationals, and all the good times with the boys.” Kueser and fellow senior Razorback Evan Kerr played together all four years and were inseparable for the final two years. Kerr said about Kueser, “He’s a really hard worker who never runs out of energy. He understands the game really well so he knows where he needs to be all the time and can finish a play if he gets the puck.”

Kueser graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Aerospace and a minor in Mathematics. After graduation, Kueser plans to move back to St. Louis and get a job in either aerospace or mechanical engineering and continue playing hockey.

Senior Bio: Chris Stovall

Senior center and assistant captain Chris Stovall. Stovall, who is from Grapevine, Texas, played four years for the Razorbacks, wearing the ‘A’ in both his Junior and Senior years. Over 138 games in a Razorback uniform, Stovall totaled 49 goals and 76 assists for 125 points. Majoring in communications, Stovall hopes to work in sports sales in the future.

Stovall said, “In my experience at Arkansas, I have been extremely fortunate to be a part of this program for 4 years. I have made friendships that will last a lifetime. Throughout that time I learned many life lessons as well. I want to thank the boys and the coaching staff for letting me be a part of it. They have been right by my side throughout it all. Being a part of this program is something that I take tremendous pride in. And at the end of the day I am proud to say I am an Arkansas Razorback.” Growing up together in Grapevine, TX, fellow Razorback and senior Shaun Foster has shared many memories with Stovall. “He always had such a fiery passion for the game at such a young age. Once we became teammates I saw that passion was still alive and well. Being teammates felt surreal and I’m glad that we both had the opportunity to play hockey again. I am extremely grateful and forever thankful to have a brother like him,” Foster said.

Senior Bio: Evan Kerr

Evan Kerr is a senior right winger from Little Rock, AR who started playing hockey when he was 3 years old. Kerr played on various AAA and AA teams in the south. He’s a very selfless player and makes his teammates better on and off the ice. He’s a good leader and will do whatever it takes to win in all circumstances. He’s one of the smartest players I’ve ever played with.”

Senior Bio: Shaun Foster

Shaun Foster is a senior defenseman from Grapevine, Texas.  Foster majored in management and minored in analytics while playing 3 season for the Razorbacks. Following graduation, Foster plans to remain in Fayetteville.

Speaking about his time as a Razorback, Foster said, “Having the opportunity to restart my hockey career has been a wonderful experience. I am so thankful for being able to complete my education here at the University of Arkansas while playing hockey for an organization that continues to develop individuals preparing them for anything that the world may throw at them. My first two seasons with the Razorbacks were not glamorous but I still appreciated being able to put on a hockey jersey. I really am going to miss this group of guys a lot.”

A longtime friend, Chris Stovall had great things to say about his fellow senior Razorback. “I’ve been fortunate to know Shaun for over 10 years now. Hockey wise, I don’t think he gets enough credit. You know night it and night out that it’s going to be an uphill battle because he’s going to be in your face making you earn everything and if you do, he’ll bury you. Not really known for his offensive prowess, but he is certainly a huge presence on that blue line that will be sorely missed.

Hockey aside, Shaun is a great human being. He treats everyone with respect and includes everyone in anything he does, especially when it comes to the team. He is a tremendous leader and is one of the most caring people I’ve ever been around. Shaun comes from a great family whom I’ve known for most of my life – some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I had the privilege of playing with his brother Dalton earlier in my career and I’m fortunate I got to play my college years with Shaun.”

Razorbacks finish second at SECHC Tournament

After beating #8 Tennessee (10-8-1) on Friday, and #4 Georgia (15-11-2) on Saturday, the #1 Arkansas Razorbacks (32-4-0) drew the #6 Ole Miss Rebels (18-6-0) in the Championship game on Sunday. The game got started with the Hogs controlling much of the opening period, limiting the Rebels to just 5 shots in the first period while recording 11 of their own. Despite having a good handle on the game, Arkansas could not break through and the score remained 0-0 after 1 period.

The 2nd period saw the Hogs dominate, recording an additional 27 shots on net and coming very close to scoring on several occasions. Midway through the 2nd period, Arkansas would go on the powerplay and Chris Salmon would finally break through on a rebound that found its way in. Continued pressure from Arkansas would not prove successful, as the Hogs took a 1-0 lead into the final period.

The Razorbacks were able to kill off a penalty to start the 3rd period. However, a second penalty just a minute later gave Ole Miss the fuel to tie the game 1-1. Less than 2 minutes after their goal, a bouncing puck gave Ole Miss a 2-on-1 that they converted on to take a 2-1 lead. The Razorbacks threw everything at Ole Miss in the final minutes, but an Ole Miss empty net goal with 22 seconds left sealed a second-place finish for Arkansas. The Razorbacks recorded 52 shots in the game, and goalie Jozef Dusenka stopped 29 of 31 shots for just his 2nd loss of the season.

Arkansas takes on arch-rival Alabama (10-9-1) this weekend to finish out the regular season and home schedule. Ticket information can be found here. Should the Hogs stay in the top two spots in the Pacific Region following the February 21st rankings, they will earn themselves a bye through the regional tournament and straight to the National Tournament in Frisco, TX March 24-28.

Arkansas headed to the SECHC Championship game

The #1 Arkansas Razorbacks (32-3-0) advanced to the SECHC Championship game on Saturday night in a wild 2-1 win over #4 Georgia (14-11-2). The Hogs came out quickly, creating several scoring opportunities and controlling much of the game in the early going. Despite the heavy pressure put on by Arkansas, they were unable to cash in. Georgia gained some life on a late Arkansas penalty, but the score remained 0-0 after 1 period.

After killing off the remainder of the penalty to start the 2nd period, the Griffin Sugasawara-Chris Stovall-Zach Wilson line went to work. Sugasawara found a loose puck on a net-front scramble to put the Razorbacks up 1-0 3 minutes into the period. Stovall and Wilson both assisted on the goal. After sustaining more pressure on the Georgia defense, the Hogs got into penalty trouble by giving Georgia a 5-on-3 advantage. The Dawgs were able to tie things up at 1 apiece on the 2-man advantage. But Arkansas would not be denied as they regained momentum, eventually drawing a Georgia penaltylate in the period. On the ensuing powerplay, Alex Kueser won the faceoff back to Dylan Odelein, who dished it off to Evan Kerr, who gave it right back to Odelein for the one-timer that found its way through traffic and into the top-left corner. That goal closed out the 2nd period with the Razorbacks on top 2-1.

In the third period, Arkansas and Georgia battled fiercely in what was one of the most intense periods of hockey the Razorbacks had been a part of all year. After a few questionable penalties were called on Arkansas, goaltender Jozef Dusenka came up huge. The Hogs survived the Georgia onslaught while down a man in the final minute to hold on for the 2-1 win and punch their ticket to the SECHC Championship. The win marked the 32nd victory of the season, setting a new program record for wins in a season. Dusenka was the Hogs first star of the game, stopping 22 of 23 shots for his 15th win of the season.

The Razorbacks will take on the #6 Ole Miss Rebels (17-6-0) Sunday, February 9th at 2:00pm. The Razorbacks and Rebels met in early December, with the teams splitting a pair of games. Ole Miss won the first game 3-1, and Arkansas won the second game 5-2. Arkansas owns the all-time record between the two teams at 17-7. Sunday’s game is slated for a 2:00pm puck drop and will be broadcasted for free here: Penalty Box Radio Facebook Page.

Razorbacks fly by Tennessee; Georgia up next

The #1 Arkansas Razorbacks (31-3-0) got the SECHC tournament started with a bang, outpacing the #8 University of Tennessee Volunteers (10-7-1) in Friday afternoon’s matchup. The Hogs got on the board early as Zach Wilson put home a rebound 6 minutes into the game. In the same shift, Chris Stovall would put Arkansas up 2-0, then he would add another goal on the next shift for a 3-0 lead with 8 minutes remaining in the period. 4 minutes later, Griffin Sugasawara added a 4th goal for the Razorbacks. Arkansas would fall into penalty trouble late in the period, giving up 2 goals to the Volunteers, and heading into the intermission leading 4-2.

After killing off the remainder of a penalty to start the 2nd, the Hogs got right back to business with Dakota Gottlieb scoring on a turnover. Trevor McLain would follow that up with a perfectly placed shot into the top right corner of the net. Sugasawara then scored two goals in 15 seconds to complete the hat trick, and Wilson added his 2nd of the game for a 9-2 lead. Those 5 goals came in a matter of just 3:11. Chris Stovall’s goal with 5 minutes remaining in the period put the Hogs up 10-2 heading into the final period.

Going into the 3rd period, the Hogs kept the train rolling. Chris Stovall would complete his hat trick and Sugasawara would net his 4th of the afternoon. Evan Kerr would score back-to-back goals and Alex Deguire would give the Hogs a 14-2 lead. Zach Wilson finished off the afternoon with his 3rd goal, finishing off a 15-2 rout of Tennessee. Early in the second period, Zach Riley got the Razorbacks’ fifth goal of the night. ETBU would get two goals of their own before the end of the second period, closing the gap to 5-3. The Tigers scored first in the third period to make it 5-4, but that was as close as they would get. Chris Stovall scored two goals and Chris Salmon, Michael Ellis, Zach Wilson, and Griffin Sugasawara each had one goal in the third period offensive outburst.
