The Arkansas Razorbacks (24-1-0) faced off against the Alabama Crimson Tide (7-6-1) on Saturday, November 23rd and Sunday, November 24th. Saturday’s game started out all Hogs as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period. Odelein, Valentini, McLain, Patterson, and Kerr all recorded goals. The second period was much of the same as the Hogs scored 4 more goals. Alex Kueser recorded a hat trick in the second and Sugasawara notched a goal of his own. LaPlante and Wilson added a goal each and Patterson recorded his second of the night in the third period to finish off a 12-0 win for the Razorbacks. Jozef Dusenka recorded his second shutout and eleventh win of the season. In addition, Coach Keller Sims registered his 50th win as Head Coach of the Razorbacks.
Sunday’s game saw the Razorbacks jump out to another early lead, with McAtee, McLain and Foster scoring goals to give Arkansas a 3-0 lead. The Hogs got into some penalty trouble in the second period and conceded a goal to Alabama, but held a 3-1 lead heading to the final frame. Both teams would trade two goals each, and the Hogs would add a late goal to finish the sweep with a 6-3 victory. Kueser and Sugasawara scored a goal each and McLain added his second of the game. Alex Kalmes notched his tenth win of the season.
After a Thanksgiving off-week, the #1 Hogs are back on the road in Olive Branch, MS to take on SECHC rival #9 Ole Miss. Friday’s game starts at 9:15 pm and Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start. Arkansas holds a 17-7 all-time record over Ole Miss. This will be the only regular season meetings between the two teams.
The University of Arkansas Men’s Hockey team plays in the Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference. The 2019-20 season will be the team’s thirteenth season as a member of the ACHA competing in Division III. The team’s schedule can be found here.
