Razorbacks split with Ole Miss; look to finish semester strong against Kansas

The Arkansas Razorbacks (25-2-0, #1 Pacific Region) took on the Ole Miss Rebels (10-5-0, #9 South Region) in two games this past weekend. Friday’s game was a stalemate early on, as neither team scored in the first period. Ole Miss would open the scoring with two goals in the second period, before Chris Stovall cut the lead in half with four minutes left. Ole Miss scored the lone goal in the third period, handing Arkansas just its second loss of the season. Alex Kalmes stopped 60 of 63 shots on net in the loss.

Saturday afternoon’s game started out the same way, with no goals in the first period. Ole Miss opened the scoring early in the second period, but Cameron McAtee answered back to tie the game at 1-1. Ole Miss scored in the last minute of the period to take a 2-1 lead into the third period. The final period was all Arkansas, as Zach Wilson scored two goals, Chris Stovall added one, and McAtee scored the game-winner and his second of the afternoon. Jozef Dusenka turned away 35 of 37 shots en route to the 5-2 win, his twelfth win of the season.

This coming weekend, the Hogs face off against the Kansas Jayhawks (14-5-0, #8 Pacific Region) in the final games of the first semester before the holiday break. Friday’s puck drop is slated for 7:40 pm and Saturday’s game starts at 2:10 pm at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence, MO. Arkansas looks to secure the season sweep after winning both games on home ice in September by a score of 6-3 and 7-3. Arkansas also narrowly owns the all-time record between the two teams with a record of 13-12-0.

The University of Arkansas Men’s Hockey team plays in the Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference. The 2019-20 season will be the team’s thirteenth season as a member of the ACHA competing in Division III. The team’s schedule can be found here.
