The Arkansas Razorbacks (22-1-0) swept Washington University of St. Louis (2-13-0) at home this past weekend. Honoring the military on Friday night, the Hogs put on a show–jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first period. Evan Kerr scored two goals, and Griffin Sugasawara, Chris Stovall, Alex Kueser, and Cameron McAtee each added one. The Hogs kept scoring, adding seven more goals in the second period. McAtee scored two goals and Kerr had one, both capturing hat tricks. Sugasawara, Tyler Valdron, Grant Deacon, and Dylan Odelein rounded out the second period scoring. Although WashU scored a second period goal, the Hogs carried a 13-1 lead into the final period. Michael Ellis added a goal for the Hogs in the third period, giving Arkansas the 14-1 victory. Bobby Rea stopped 15 of 16 shots for his third win of the season.
Saturday would see a rematch of the two teams, with the Hogs starting off on the right foot once again. Nick Valentini recorded a natural hat trick, and Tyler Valdron, Brendan Bomay, and Zach Wilson each added a goal to put the Razorbacks up 6-0 through one period. WashU scored two goals in the 2nd period, but the Hogs tacked five more on the scoreboard for an 11-2 lead. Zach Riley, Collin O’Mahoney, Jake Sharrer, Griffin Sugasawara, and Kyle Patterson each notched a goal in the second period. The final period was all Hogs as Shaun Foster and Evan Kerr each scored a goal, and Zach Wilson scored two goals to complete his hat trick, giving Arkansas the 15-2 win. Bobby Rea recorded his fourth win of the season by stopping 22 of 24 shots.
This weekend Arkansas heads to Pelham, Alabama to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide (7-4-1). Saturday’s game starts at 2:00 pm and Sunday’s game is at 9:00 am. Earlier this season, the Hogs skated to an 11-1 victory over the Tide at the Rocket City Showcase in Huntsville, AL. In the Division III era, the Razorbacks own a 15-5-1 record over Alabama.
The University of Arkansas Men’s Hockey team plays in the Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference. The 2019-20 season will be the team’s thirteenth season as a member of the ACHA competing in Division III. The team’s schedule can be found here.
