The Arkansas Razorbacks(4-0) played host to Dallas Baptist University(3-7) this weekend in a two-game series. Friday night’s game saw the Razorbacks get started just 18 seconds in, when Griffin Sugasawara put home a rebound on a point shot from Cameron McAtee. Chris Salmon also assisted on the goal. The Hogs would strike again just 2:10 later with a goal by Brad Estrada, assisted by Kyle Crews and McAtee. That goal was Estrada’s first as a Razorback. DBU would cut the Arkansas lead in half on a powerplay goal 9:22 into the first period. The Hogs extended their lead in the second period, when Crews notched his first collegiate goal, with assists to Estrada and Jordan Deskeere. Arkansas later made it 4-1 on a goal by Zach Riley, assisted by Trevor McLain and Grant Deacon. DBU would get two of their own, cutting the Hog lead to 4-3 to start the 3rd period. In the 3rd frame, McLain netted a rebound off of a Kevin LaPlante shot to give the Hogs a 5-3 lead. DBU answered back, before Zach Wilson would add an empty-net goal in the final minute that sealed the deal for Arkansas. Jozef Dusenka stopped 9 of 13 shots for his 3rd win of the season, as Arkansas outshot DBU 44-13 in the 6-4 win.
On Saturday, Arkansas looked to complete the weekend sweep. Captain Grant Deacon got the Hogs off on the right foot once again, scoring just 36 seconds into the contest. Kevin LaPlante and Zach Riley assisted on the goal. The Hogs carried the 1-0 lead into the 2nd period, before Trevor Borlace scored his first goal as a Razorback, with assists from Cameron McAtee and Michael Ellis. Jordan Deskeere would put the Hogs up 3-0 on a pass from Chris Salmon. DBU finally broke through late in the 2nd period, but Arkansas held onto the 3-1 lead going into the 3rd period. The Hogs took a 5-1 lead early in the 3rd period on goals by McAtee and Pavel Salter. The goal was Salter’s first collegiate goal. Zach Wilson, Kevin LaPlante, and Brad Estrada added assists. DBU would score on a power play, but the Hogs were too much. Borlace added his second of the night late in the game, once again assisted by Ellis to give the Hogs the 6-2 victory. Sam Haynes recorded his first collegiate win, stopping 12 of 14 shots.
The University of Arkansas Men’s Hockey team plays in the Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association. The 2020-21 season will be the team’s thirteenth season as a member of the ACHA competing in Division III. The team’s schedule can be viewed here.
