DI begins home stand; DIII heads into a bye weekend

This past weekend, while the Division I Razorbacks enjoyed a bye week, the Division III Ice Hogs took their talents to Little Rock to face SECHC opponent Mississippi State University. The Ice Hogs and Bulldogs played their first of two games on Friday night at the Arkansas Skatium. The Razorbacks started the game strong scoring a total of eight goals in the first period. In that period, both Trey Lowry and Brooks Moore scored two goals. The Hogs piled on seven more goals in the second period where Brooks Moore and Aiden Everett each scored two goals. The Hogs would add four more goals in the third period. The Ice Hogs collected a 19-0 victory and goalie Alex Kalmes posted a shutout.

In the second game of the series on Saturday, the Bulldogs got on the board less than a minute into the contest. The Razorbacks would go on to answer with eight goals of their own in the first period. The Hogs went on to score three more goals in the second period as Jake Sharrer contributed two goals. The Hogs poured in eight more goals in the third period when Matt Tallo and Zach Hale scored two goals.  The Division III Razorbacks are off this weekend.

After a bye week, the Division I Razorbacks return home to begin a 10 game home stretch to finish out the semester. The home stand begins with hosting WCHL rivals the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos as well as the Sooners from the University of Oklahoma.  On Thursday, November 2nd at 8:30 PM, the Hogs will tangle with the defendant National Champion and the #5 ranked Bronchos from UCO. The Razorbacks will be looking to avenge the two losses the Bronchos handed them earlier this season in Edmond, OK.

Then on Friday, November 3rd at 7:00 PM, and Saturday, November 4th at 4:30 PM, the Razorbacks will host the #19 ranked Sooners from the University of Oklahoma as they look to avenge a 2-5 loss against the Sooners earlier this season in Oklahoma City.  All three games will be played at the Jones Center in Springdale and all three games will also be broadcast on the Drop the Gloves YouTube channel.  Keep an eye on the program’s social media closer to the time of the games for the link for the broadcast.

Division I takes a break; DIII in Little Rock

This past weekend the Division I Razorbacks finished up their grueling fall travel schedule. The Razorbacks traveled to Ames, IA to take on the 12th ranked Cyclones of Iowa State University. The Cyclones handled the Razorbacks in the first game Friday night, posting a 7-0 victory.  Game two was a different story.  Although Iowa State carried a 3-0 lead into the third period, the Razorbacks battled back in the final frame with a pair of goals.  The Division I return home next weekend for league play against UCO and Oklahoma.

While the Division 1 Hogs were on the road, the red-hot Division III Razorbacks were at home this weekend playing host to the Jayhawks from the University of Kansas. The first game between the two was played on Friday night at the Jones Center. With less than one minute remaining in the first period the Jayhawks were on the board first. In the second period, rookie Triston Wilson tied the game up for the Razorbacks.  Kansas and Arkansas would remain tied through regulation.  But during the 4-on-4 overtime period, Matt Lasky notched the game winner about halfway through the five-minute period.

Then, on Saturday, the Jayhawks took an early lead on the Hogs–notching two goals in the opening period.  The Hogs were able to tie the game behind goals from Alex Kueser and Matt Lasky. The Jayhawks would go on to score three goals late in the second period to lead the Hogs 5-2 going into the third period. Early in the third Matt Lasky scored his second goal of the game to cut the Jayhawk lead to two. The Hogs ended up falling to the Jayhawks 6-3 and split the weekend with Kansas.

This weekend, the Division III Razorbacks travel to the State Capital to face the Bulldogs of Mississippi State University in an SECHC conference matchup.  While in Little Rock, the Hogs will call the Arkansas Skatium (1311 S Bowman Rd, Little Rock, AR 72211) their temporary home. The Razorbacks enter the weekend with a record of 8-5, while the Bulldogs enter the weekend winless. The Razorbacks have dominated the lifetime series with MSU 7-0.  The two teams have not met since 2015 when the Razorbacks walloped the Bulldogs 18-3.

This past weekend the Division One Ice Hogs were on the road in Arizona. On Thursday October 12, 2017, the team faced #20 Sun Devils from Arizona State University. The Hogs got on the board early in the first period thanks to a goal from senior captain James Haddock, assisted by captain Landyn Howze. By the end of the first period the Sun Devils had evened things up 1-1. In the second period the Sun Devils managed to ring up three more goals against the Ice Hogs making the score 4-1 going into the third period. Ultimately the Hogs fell to the Sun Devils 5-1.

On Friday, October 13, the Hogs played their first of two games on the weekend against the  #16 Wildcats from the University of Arizona. It was all Wildcats in this one until 7:56 in the second period when senior captain James Haddock scored his second goal of the weekend to make the score 3-1, he was assisted by Cal Owens. With under a minute left in the second, the Hogs were on the board again thanks to the team’s leading scorer Luc Gradisar.  Gradisar was assisted by Cory Delisle. Although the Hogs trailed the Wildcats 3-2 entering the third period, the Wildcats were able to score two more goals in the third period to secure a 5-2 win.

On Saturday October 14, 2017, the Division I Hogs played their final game of the weekend against the Wildcats from Arizona.  The Razorbacks were on the board first thanks to a goal by senior captain Jacob Brown, assisted by newcomer Sine Chadi. The Wildcats then responded with two goals of their own. With fewer than five minutes left in the first, Jacob Brown tied things up for the Hogs on an unassisted goal and his second of the night. The Wildcats would get on the board first in the second period–leading the Hogs 3-2. The Hogs answered back with two goals of their own in the second period. Goals by junior captain Collin Young and the team’s leading scorer Luc Gradisar gave the Hogs a 4-3 lead going into the third period. But the Wildcats dominated the third period–scoring four more goals. The Hogs cut into the three goal deficit with one minute remaining in the game thanks to a goal by Luc Gradisar, assisted by Cory Delisle. The Hogs fell to the Wildcats 7-5.  The Division I Razorbacks return to action this weekend in Ames, Iowa, against the Iowa State University Cyclones.

The Division III Ice Hogs were back at home this past weekend facing the Bears from Missouri State University. The Hogs had revenge on their mind after losing to the Bears earlier this season in the Pacific Region Showcase. On Friday October 13th, the Hogs played their first of two games for the weekend against the Bears at the Jones Center. The Hogs got on the board first in the first period thanks to a goal scored by Matt Lasky, assisted by Trey Lowry and senior captain Andrew DeNome. The Hogs again got on the board in the first thanks to a goal by Trey Lowry, assisted by Matt Lasky and Andrew DeNome. Less than a minute into the second period Matt Lasky scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Zach Palmer and Trey Lowry. The Hogs won the game against the Bears 3-0 as rookie goalie Jozsef Dusenka recorded his first shutout of the season.

On Saturday, October 14th, the Hogs faced the Bears for their second game of the weekend at the Jones Center. The Hogs came into the game looking to continue their hot streak from the night before. After a scoreless first frame, Arkansas scored the first goal of the game with two minutes left in the period.  Then, just before the end of the period, the Hogs were on the board again thanks to a last minute goal by Zach Palmer. Then just two minutes into the third period, Brooks Moore put the Hogs on the board again giving them a 3-0 lead.  Four minutes later, Trey Lowry scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Zach Piekarski. Less than a minute later, Matt Lasky scored his third goal of the season, assisted by Andrew DeNome, to push the Arkansas lead to 5-0. For the second night in a row, rookie goalie Jozsef Dusenka recorded a shutout for the Ice Hogs.

The Division III Razorbacks return home tomorrow to face the Kansas Jayhawks.

DI back on the road; DIII welcomes rival Missouri State

The Division III Razorbacks return home this weekend to host the Bears of Missouri State University. The Hogs and Bears met earlier this season in the Pacific Region Showcase, where the Bears won 3-1.  The Hogs the weekend with a record of 5-4 after having split a pair of games against Nebraska.  For its part, Missouri State arrives with an overall record of 6-3-0 after having swept a pair of close games last weekend against Creighton. All time, the Razorbacks own a 15-8 lifetime series edge over the Bears.

The Razorbacks’ first game against the Bears will take place on Friday October 13th at 9:15 PM at the Jones Center in Springdale. Puck drop for the second game is set for Saturday October 14th at 7:30 PM at the Jones Center.

The Division I Hogs are back on the road, this time to Arizona this weekend to take on the 16th ranked Wildcats from the University of Arizona and the 18th ranked Sun Devils from Arizona State University.  Both are WCHL conference rivals.

On Thursday October 12th, the Razorbacks will face the Sun Devils of Arizona State University. The Razorbacks will be looking for their first-ever win against the Sun Devils as they are 0-3-0 all time against them. Puck drop is set for 8:00 PM (MST) against the Sun Devils. The Sun Devils enter the game with a record of 2-4-0 this season.

On Friday October 13th at 7:00 PM (MST) and Saturday October 14th at 1:15 PM (MST) the Razorbacks will face the Wildcats of the University of Arizona. The teams met three times last season and the Wildcats hold an edge in the series at 2-1-1. The Hogs will look to hand the Wildcats their first loss as they enter the weekend with an undefeated record of 3-0-0.

DI notches two league wins; DIII splits with Nebraska

The Division I Razorbacks played their first home games this past weekend at the Jones Center. On Thursday the Razorbacks hosted the 12th ranked Buffaloes from the University of Colorado.  The Buffaloes entered the game with a record of 3-1 and started the contest strong, scoring two goals in the first period. The Hogs got on the board in the second period thanks to a goal from Assistant Captain Landyn Howze but the Buffs cruised to a 6-1 win.

On Friday, the Razorbacks played host to the 17th ranked Rams of Colorado State in the first of a two game series. The Rams entered this series with a record of 2-3. The Rams struck first, scoring a goal in the first period. The second period was scoreless as the Rams held onto their 1-0 lead entering the third period. The Razorbacks finally struck back at the end of the third period with the goaltender, Rio Virgoe, pulled and tied the game up at 1-1.  Thanks to that late marker by Chris Stovall, the teams entered a death overtime where Luc Gradisar scored the game-winning goal, giving the Hogs their first WCHL conference victory of the season.

On Saturday, the Razorbacks again played host to the Rams of Colorado State. The Rams scored early and led the Hogs 1-0 at the end of the first period. In the second period the Rams again scored a goal and took a 2-0 lead. Arkansas finally got on the board in the second period thanks to a goal by Chris Stovall.  Later in the second period, the Hogs tied the game thanks to a goal from Assistant Captain Collin Young.  At the end of the second period the score was all tied up at 2-2.  One minute into the third period, Chris Stovall broke the tie by scoring the eventual game winner during 4-on-4 play thanks to a pair of early period penalties.  The Division I team’s 3-2 win over CSU marked the program’s first ever sweep of a WCHL opponent.  The DI Hogs travel to Arizona to tangle with conference foes University of Arizona and Arizona State.

Meanwhile, the Division III Ice Hogs got on the road this weekend to Omaha, NE to take face the Cornhuskers of the University of Nebraska. After having beaten the Razorbacks earlier this season in the Pacific Region Showcase, the Cornhuskers entered the series against the Razorbacks with an undefeated 5-0 record.

During the Friday tilt, the Huskers dominated the first two periods and held a 2-0 entering the third period. But the Razorbacks caught fire in the third period. Five minutes into the third period, Arkansas got on the board thanks to an unassisted goal by rookie Grant Deacon. Two minutes later, fellow rookie Jeffery Sands scored the game tying goal.  Then, with under four minutes left in the game, the team’s leading scorer on the season, Alex Kueser, scored the go-ahead goal for the Hogs giving them a 3-2 lead over the Huskers.  Finally, with under a minute left in the game, Kueser potted an empty net marker to earn the Hogs a critical 4-2 win.

Saturday afternoon, the Division III team again faced the Huskers for the second game in the two game weekend series. During the first period, it was all Huskers as Nebraska jumped out to a 2-0 lead. In the second period, the Hogs sprung to life thanks to a goals from Zach Palmer and Alex Kueser.  With the game tied entering the third period, Nebraska pulled ahead on a pair of goals en route to a 4-2 win.

The Division III Hogs will return home this weekend to face rival Missouri State.

 

DI set for home opener; DIII on the road to Nebraska

This weekend the Division I Ice Hogs will play their first home games of the season.  Thursday October 5th the Ice Hogs will play the #12 ranked Buffaloes from the University of Colorado. On Friday October 6th and Saturday October 7th the Ice Hogs will be playing the #17 ranked Rams of Colorado State University.

Thursday October 5th the Razorbacks will play the Buffaloes at 8:30 PM at the Jones Center in Springdale, AR. The Buffs enter the weekend with a record of 3-1. The Division I Hogs have played the Buffaloes seven times dating back to 2015 and own a record of 1-6 against them. The Hogs will be looking to defend  home ice against Colorado after the Buffs came to the Jones Center and swept the Hogs in 2016-17.  Thursday is also Pink the Rink where the Razorbacks are teaming up with the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority in raising awareness for breast cancer, so make sure to wear your pink!  There will be a special edition of chuck-a-puck during the intermission where all of the proceeds will go to helping fight and cure breast cancer.  Pucks will be sold at $5 a piece and there will be a prize rewarded to the person who chucks their puck the closest to center ice!  A limited number of fans will also receive complimentary Pink the Rink jerseys on a first come first served basis.

Then, on Friday October 6th, the Arkansas plays host to Colorado State at 7:30 pm in the first of a pair of weekend games.  The Rams enter the weekend with a record of 2-2 having just dropped a pair of games to Utah and Eastern Michigan after opening their season with a sweep of Rutgers. The Hogs have yet to beat the Rams in the teams’ three prior meetings.  Arkansas will be looking to avenge a 3-0 home ice loss to the Rams during the 16-17 season.  In appreciation for all of their support, the Razorbacks will recognize the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Arkansas during Friday night’s contest.  The weekend closes on Saturday night when the Hogs again take on the Rams at 7:30 PM.  All three of the Division I Hogs games will be live streamed via the teams Facebook page through Facebook Live.

Also this weekend, the red hot Division III Ice Hogs (4-3-0) will be on the road to Lincoln, NE to take on the Cornhuskers from the University of Nebraska.  Arkansas enters the weekend on a four game win streak.  Nebraska sports a win streak of its own, having notched five consecutive victories.  The two teams met once already in the Pacific Region Showcase where Nebraska claimed a 6-5 win on September 17.  The Razorbacks and Cornhuskers have faced off nine times in the past and Nebraska owns 5-4 series edge.  The first game takes place at 7:00 PM Friday October 6th in Nebraska.  Puck drop for the second game is set for 11:45 AM Saturday October 7th.

 

DI Hogs swept in Oklahoma; DIII sweeps conference showcase

The Division I Hogs were on the road this weekend. They traveled to Oklahoma to face conference opponents, University of Oklahoma and University of Central Oklahoma.

On Thursday September 28th the Hogs played the Sooners from the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City where all of the goals came in the 3rd period.  With eighteen minutes to go, the Hogs broke a scoreless game open with a power play goal from Luc Gradisar.  Arkansas held the lead until the Sooners tied the game on a power play marker of their own at the ten minute mark.  Just twenty-one seconds later, Oklahoma scored the go-ahead goal to make it 2-1.  The third and fourth Sooner goals came in the closing eight minutes.  Although James Haddock notched a second marker for Arkansas, the Sooners would add an empty net goal in the closing seconds en route to a 5-2 victory.

On Friday, September 29th, the Hogs went to Edmond, OK to play their first of two games that weekend against the defending National Champion Bronchos from University of Central Oklahoma. At the end of the first period the Hogs trailed the Bronchos 3-2. Alex DeGuire and true freshman Chris Salmon scored for the Razorbacks during the first period. The second period saw the Bronchos put three more on the board while Chris Stovall potted one for the Hogs.  Although Arkansas won the final frame, UCO earned a 6-4 victory.

On Saturday, September 30th, the Hogs again faced the Bronchos in Edmond, OK.  After playing the Bronchos tight for two periods, UCO broke the game open in the third period thanks in part to five third period Arkansas penalties.  Looking back on the weekend, Alex DeGuire, Chris Salmon, and James Haddock all scored their first goals of the season.  Cory Delisle and Shaun Foster each finished the weekend with three assists.  Not only did Alex DeGuire score his first goal this weekend, but he also added two assists as well.

The Division III Hogs traveled to Olive Branch Mississippi this past weekend looking to continue their hot streak from the previous weekend. While in Olive Branch, the Hogs faced SEC conference opponents University of Mississippi and Vanderbilt University.

On Saturday September 30th the Hogs played the Rebels of Ole Miss. After two periods the Ice Hogs led the Rebels 2-0 off of goals from Alex Kueser and Trey Lowry. The Rebels struck back in the third period making the score 2-1. The Hogs finished the third period on fire — scoring three unanswered goals thanks to Alex Kueser, Zach Palmer, and Matt Hehr. The Razorbacks earned a 5-1 win and its third consecutive victory.

Sunday morning, October 1st, Arkansas faced the Commodores from Vanderbilt and jumped out to a big lead.  Goals by Matt Hehr in the first, and Grant Deacon in the second period had the Razorbacks leading the Dores 2-0 entering the third period.  Arkansas broke the game open in the final frame behind a hat trick from Alex Kueser alongside third period markers from Trey Lowry and Garrett Jackson.  The 7-2 blowout marked the DIII squad’s fourth consecutive victory.  The star of the weekend for Arkansas was Alex Kueser who scored 5 goals and added three assists in the team’s conference victories.

Both rosters set to open conference play on the road this weekend

This past weekend both the Division I and Division III Razorbacks were in action. The Division I Razorbacks were on the road for a two game series against the University of Alabama. The Division III Razorbacks were at home this weekend defending home ice against Pacific Region rival Robert Morris University-Peoria.

The Division I Ice Hogs faced off against the Frozen Tide of Alabama in the first game of two on Friday September 22nd. The Tide struck first in the game and scored the only goal of the first period. After the Hogs scored the second period equalizer, the Tide potted two more before the period.  A little over two minutes into the third period, newcomer Sine Chadi registered the Hogs’ second goal of the game to make it 3-2.  But with six minutes to play, the Hogs were whistled for a five minute major and, with just 2:31 remaining, the Tide put the game away 4-2.  Alabama added an empty-net goal with 0:16 remaining to run the final score to 5-2.

The Division I Ice Hogs again faced the Tide of Alabama on Saturday September 23rd. After a scoreless first period, the Hogs struck first in the second period thanks to an unassisted goal by Luc Gradisar.  Less than a minute and a half later, the Hogs were on the board again thanks to a goal scored by team captain Landyn Howze, assisted by fellow captains James Haddock and Jesse Foskey.  After a missed call during an offensive rush opportunity, the Tide skated the length of the ice and scored with under two seconds remaining in the period.  On its seventh power play (compared to the Hogs’ lone power play), Alabama tied the game with under six minutes to play in regulation.  Overtime failed to produce a winner and the Tide went on to win the shootout 2-0.

The Division III Ice Hogs hosted the Eagles of Robert Morris-Peoria this weekend at the Jones Center in Springdale.  On Friday September 22nd the Hogs played the first game in their series with the Eagles. At the end of the first period, the Eagles were leading the Hogs 1-0. In the second period the Razorbacks tied the game at 1-1 off of a Ryan Hall goal. The third period was a lively one. In total, four goals were scored that period and the Hogs accounted for three of those. One goal by Alex Kueser and two goals by Matt Lasky gave the Razorbacks the lead and a 4-2 win in favor of the Hogs.

On Saturday September 23rd, the Hogs faced the Eagles in their second game of the weekend. The Hogs entered this game with one thing in mind–sweeping the Eagles. The Eagles struck first, but the Hogs answered back with a goal of their own thanks to Matt Hehr. The Eagles scored one more goal in the first en route to a 2-1 lead at the end of the first frame.  Less than three minutes into the second period, the Eagles were on the board again and held a 3-1 lead. Five minutes later the Razorbacks scored their first of what would be six unanswered goals. Two goals in the second period by Zach Palmer and Sky Chambers evened up the score at 3-3 going into the third period. In the third period, the Razorbacks caught fire. Their hot streak started less than one minute into the period when Trey Lowry put one in the net for the Hogs. Less than one minute later Lowry scored again for the Hogs, giving them a 5-3 lead. The Ice Hogs ended up scoring two more goals in the third period thanks to Alex Kueser and Matt Hehr. A 7-3 win completed the sweep.

This weekend both the Division I and Division III Ice Hogs will be on the road. The Division I Hogs will travel to Oklahoma to open WCHL conference play against the #20 University of Oklahoma and the defending National Champion–the #1 University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos. The Division III Ice Hogs will be travel to Mississippi to face SECHC Conference opponents Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

The Division I Razorbacks will play the Sooners from the University of Oklahoma at 8:00 PM Thursday September 28th in Oklahoma City. The Ice Hogs will be out for revenge as they lost their three games to the Sooners last season.  The Razorbacks will enter the game against the Sooners with a record of 2-1-1 while the Sooners enter with a record of 0-4-0 having dropped a pair of games to both #2 Minot State and #8 Lindenwood University.

Friday September 29th at 7:45 PM and Saturday September 30th at 7:30 PM the Division I Ice Hogs will face off against the defending National Champion Bronchos from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK. The Bronchos enter the weekend with a record of 2-0 having just swept a pair of games against Division II Texas A&M.

The Division III Ice Hogs will play the Rebels of Ole Miss at 4:15 PM in Olive Branch, MS, Saturday September 30th. Last season the Razorbacks and Rebels split their regular season series 1-1. The Division III Hogs will be looking to avenge a loss against the Rebels in last season’s SECHC Tournament. All time, the Hogs hold a record of 13-4 against the Rebels. Arkansas enters the weekend with an overall record of 2-3. The Rebels will enter the weekend with a record of 4-2.

Sunday October 1st the Division III Ice Hogs will face the Commodores of Vanderbilt at 9:15 AM in Olive Branch, MS. Last season, Arkansas and Vanderbilt split their regular season series 1-1.  All time the Razorbacks are 9-2 against the Commodores.

Division I hits the road to Alabama; Division III plays host to RMU-Peoria

The 2017-18 season is underway for both the Division I and Division III Ice Hogs.

On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday September 15-17, the Division III Ice Hogs traveled to Springfield, MO, to play in the Pacific Region Showcase.  The Razorbacks played games against the University of Kansas, Missouri State University, and the University of Nebraska.

Friday night the Hogs faced off against the University of Kansas Jayhawks. The Razorbacks got off to a hot start scoring three goals in the first period. Overall the Hogs scored five goals, but the Jayhawks made a comeback in the third period.  With the score knotted at 5, the Jayhawks scored the go-ahead goal with just 7 seconds remaining in regulation en route to securing 6-5 win.

Saturday the Hogs faced the Ice Bears from Missouri State University. The Bears got on the board first—scoring three quick goals. The Hogs got on the scoreboard for the first time in the third period with a goal from Alex Keuser.  Ultimately, the Razorbacks fell 3-1 to Missouri State.

Finally, on Sunday, the DIII Ice Hogs played the Cornhuskers from the University of Nebraska.  Sixteen minutes into the third period the Hogs were down 6-3. Sky Chambers and Matthew Lasky each scored a goal near the end of the third period but it was not enough to overcome the Cornhuskers.

The Hogs finished the weekend with a record of 0-3, against three strong teams. Alex Keuser and Matthew Lasky were the leading scorers for the weekend, as both recorded two goals. With four assists, Drew Hill led the way for the team in assists.

This coming weekend, September 22-23, the Division III Ice Hogs will play their first home games against Robert Morris University-Peoria. The two teams played twice last season at Peoria, where they split the series 1-1. That series included an exciting overtime shootout win by the Razorbacks. All time, the Razorbacks have the advantage over the Eagles, with a record of 5-1. This weekend the puck will drop against the Eagles at 9:15 PM Friday night, and 7:30 PM Saturday night. Tickets are $8 general admission; $3 students (or 2 for $5 students).

Also this weekend, the Division I Ice Hogs will travel to Pelham, AL to take on longtime rival:  the University of Alabama. The two teams faced off just once last season in a game that ended in an overtime shootout victory for the Razorbacks.  Dating since 2009, the Razorbacks have posted an overall 17-5-1 record against the Frozen Tide–including both Division I and III games.  This will be the first time the teams will square off in Pelham in the Division I format.

The Razorbacks enter the Alabama series with a record of 2-0 after sweeping the Redbirds of Illinois State in their first series of the season two weeks ago.  The Tide enter the series with a record of 1-1 after splitting their first series with Liberty University.  Puck drop against the Tide this weekend will take place at 7:00 PM on both September 22 and 23.

DI sweeps ISU on the road; DIII heads to Pacific Region Showcase

Last Friday and Saturday, September 8-9, the Division I Ice Hogs faced off against the Illinois State University Redbirds. The Hogs came out of the weekend with two victories, sweeping the Redbirds for the first time in program history.

On Friday, the Hogs struck first in the first period with a goal by Cory Delisle, assisted by Jesse Foskey and Sine Chadi.  The Redbirds evened things up prior to the end of the first.  Arkansas regained the lead in the second period with a goal by Luc Gradisar, assisted by Cal Owens and Cory Delisle.  Three minutes later the Redbirds struck back and pulled ahead in the third period with just three minutes to play.  After an ISU penalty, the Razorbacks pulled their goaltender for a 6-4 advantage and, with just thirteen seconds left to play in regulation, Chris Stovall scored the equalizer.  The Hogs carried the play in overtime, but the game went to a shootout where both Chris Stovall and Cory Delisle scored to secure a 4-3 Arkansas victory.

The Redbirds got off to a hot start in Saturday’s rematch.  Although the Hogs scored first on tally by Tyler Valentin, assisted by Andrew Pellegrino and Chris Salmon, the Redbirds answered just nine seconds later.  After adding two more goals in the first and still another in the second, the Hogs were trailing 4-1 midway through the contest.  Across the balance of regulation, however, the Razorbacks scored three unanswered goals thanks to Collin Young, Sine Chadi, and Landyn Howze.  Overtime again failed to produce a winner and, like Friday, the game headed to a shootout.  Thanks to a Cory Delisle goal, Arkansas secured a second come-from-behind victory in as many days.  Arkansas will see ISU next year in Springdale, AR on February 9 and 10.  In the meantime, the DI Razorbacks are idle this weekend before heading to rival Alabama for a pair of games on on September 22 and 23.

This coming weekend, September 15-17, first-year Head Coach Colin Hesse and the Division III Razorback Ice Hockey team will open up its tenth season by playing in the Pacific Region Showcase in Springfield, MO.

Coming off of a 13-19-1 season, the Ice Hogs will face the University of Kansas, University of Nebraska, and Missouri State University in the Showcase. The Division III Razorbacks seek redemption after posting a cumulative 1-9 record against those three teams last season.  All time, the Hogs hold a 23-15 record against the three teams (Kansas: 4-4; Nebraska: 4-4; Missouri State: 15-7).

Like the Division I roster, the off-season brought numerous changes to the Division III team.  In total, the Razorbacks added twelve new faces to the Division III roster. The Hogs return fifteen players from last season, including last season’s leading scorer, Evan Kerr.  Senior Andrew DeNome returns as captain.

The puck drops at 7:30 pm on Friday night against Kansas; 5:00 pm Saturday night against Missouri State; and 2:30 pm Sunday afternoon against Nebraska.
