DI ready to renew rivalry with Missouri State

This past weekend the Division I Ice Hogs hosted Division II opponent Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville at the Jones Center. On Friday, night the Hogs met up with SIU-E for their first game of the weekend series. In the first period, the Hogs scored the lone goal thanks to rookie Andy Williams (assisted by Chris Salmon and rookie Dakota Gottlieb).

In the second frame, it was all Hogs again as Alex Kueser, Chris Stovall, Chris Salmon and Konnor Madsen each scored a goal for the Ice Hogs. The third period saw much of the same as Chris Stovall and Matt Lasky each scored a goal for the Hogs to put them up 7-0. The Hogs went on to earn the shutout and take game one from SIU-E.

Saturday night the Hogs came in hungry looking for a sweep. The first period was all Hogs as Dakota Gottlieb and Evan Kerr each scored a goal. Early in the second period, Andy Williams scored his second goal of the weekend to give the Hogs a 3-0 lead. Cory Delisle and Alex Kueser each scored a goal before SIU-E got on the board. One minute after the SIU-E goal, Arkansas responded as Cory Delisle scored his second goal of the night. SIU-E got on the board very early in the third period, which brought the score to 6-2. But Andy Williams potted two more goals in the third period, completing the hat trick and helping the Hogs sweep SIU-E.

This weekend, the DI Ice Hogs (10-22-0) will hit the road and travel to Springfield to face conference opponent and rival #12 Missouri State (27-13-0). Arkansas will look to remain hot after sweeping SIU-E last weekend, as Missouri State comes in having split their series with Alabama last weekend. The Ice Hogs are 4-10 all time in the Division I era against Missouri State.  Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM on both Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th in Springfield, Missouri.

The University of Arkansas fields two hockey teams.  The Division I team’s 2018-19 schedule is here. It has, since 2015, competed in the Western Collegiate Hockey Conference (learn more here). All home games are played at The Jones Center for Families in Springdale.
