DIII semester opens with a split with Ole Miss at home

This past weekend the Division Three Ice Hogs hosted SEC conference opponent Ole Miss at the Jones Center. The first period of Friday night’s game was scoreless. Eight minutes into the second period the Hogs got on the board thanks to a Tyler Valdron goal, assisted by Zach Palmer and Griffin Sugasawara. Seven minutes later, the Rebs tied things up. The majority of the third period was quiet as the Hogs and Rebs entered the last minute of play all tied up at 1. With fifty-five seconds left, Griffin Sugasawara scored to give the Hogs the go ahead goal. He was assisted by Tommy Weiser. Fifty seconds later Alex Parisi scored the insurance goal securing a 3-1 Hog win.

On Saturday the 19th the Hogs faced the Rebels of Ole Miss once more. Ole Miss got on the board first as they scored the only goal in the first period. About five minutes into the second period, Grant Deacon and Tyler Valdron assisted Griffin Sugasawara on the game-tying goal. A minute and a half later the Rebs struck back and took the lead 2-1. Early in the third period the Hogs tied things up again on a Tyler Valdron goal (assists: Brad Branscum & Nick Valentini). With under four minutes to play, Ole Miss scored to take the lead and eventually notch a 3-2 win.

This weekend, the DIII Ice Hogs will be in Little Rock face Ole Miss two more times. The Ice Hogs come in at 23-8-0 while the Rebels bring in a record of 13-3-0. The Hogs have the edge all time in the series between the two at 17-5-0. The Hogs will take on Ole Miss on Friday the 25th at 9:00 PM and Saturday the 26th at 5:30 PM at the Arkansas Skatium (address: 1311 S Bowman Rd, Little Rock, AR 72211).
