The Division I Hogs were on the road this weekend. They traveled to Oklahoma to face conference opponents, University of Oklahoma and University of Central Oklahoma.
On Thursday September 28th the Hogs played the Sooners from the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City where all of the goals came in the 3rd period. With eighteen minutes to go, the Hogs broke a scoreless game open with a power play goal from Luc Gradisar. Arkansas held the lead until the Sooners tied the game on a power play marker of their own at the ten minute mark. Just twenty-one seconds later, Oklahoma scored the go-ahead goal to make it 2-1. The third and fourth Sooner goals came in the closing eight minutes. Although James Haddock notched a second marker for Arkansas, the Sooners would add an empty net goal in the closing seconds en route to a 5-2 victory.
On Friday, September 29th, the Hogs went to Edmond, OK to play their first of two games that weekend against the defending National Champion Bronchos from University of Central Oklahoma. At the end of the first period the Hogs trailed the Bronchos 3-2. Alex DeGuire and true freshman Chris Salmon scored for the Razorbacks during the first period. The second period saw the Bronchos put three more on the board while Chris Stovall potted one for the Hogs. Although Arkansas won the final frame, UCO earned a 6-4 victory.
On Saturday, September 30th, the Hogs again faced the Bronchos in Edmond, OK. After playing the Bronchos tight for two periods, UCO broke the game open in the third period thanks in part to five third period Arkansas penalties. Looking back on the weekend, Alex DeGuire, Chris Salmon, and James Haddock all scored their first goals of the season. Cory Delisle and Shaun Foster each finished the weekend with three assists. Not only did Alex DeGuire score his first goal this weekend, but he also added two assists as well.
The Division III Hogs traveled to Olive Branch Mississippi this past weekend looking to continue their hot streak from the previous weekend. While in Olive Branch, the Hogs faced SEC conference opponents University of Mississippi and Vanderbilt University.
On Saturday September 30th the Hogs played the Rebels of Ole Miss. After two periods the Ice Hogs led the Rebels 2-0 off of goals from Alex Kueser and Trey Lowry. The Rebels struck back in the third period making the score 2-1. The Hogs finished the third period on fire — scoring three unanswered goals thanks to Alex Kueser, Zach Palmer, and Matt Hehr. The Razorbacks earned a 5-1 win and its third consecutive victory.
Sunday morning, October 1st, Arkansas faced the Commodores from Vanderbilt and jumped out to a big lead. Goals by Matt Hehr in the first, and Grant Deacon in the second period had the Razorbacks leading the Dores 2-0 entering the third period. Arkansas broke the game open in the final frame behind a hat trick from Alex Kueser alongside third period markers from Trey Lowry and Garrett Jackson. The 7-2 blowout marked the DIII squad’s fourth consecutive victory. The star of the weekend for Arkansas was Alex Kueser who scored 5 goals and added three assists in the team’s conference victories.
