Arkansas Blanks Auburn To Open Conference Play

The Arkansas Razorbacks took the first of two games this weekend with Auburn, shutting out the Tigers 14-0.

The Hogs (3-3-0) we’re led by freshman goaltender Kevin Sheer and forward Martin Sundstedt who netted 5 goals in tonight’s contest.

In the first period of the game Arkansas jumped ahead early when Sundstedt scored the first goal of the game 2:44 in. Sundstedt would score his second goal of the game just a couple minutes later, but this time on the power play, giving the Hogs a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.

Arkansas would continue to put the puck in the net in the second period as Sundstedt scored his third, fourth, and fifth goals. Defenseman Drew McComas would score two goals, along with Tyler Bynum, Jimmy Nemeth, and Easton Oliver each scoring one of their own sending the Razorbacks in to the locker room with a commanding 8-0 lead at the end of the second frame.

In the third and final period the Hogs would score six more goals, Ryan Holloway would score two of these while Forest Mudgett and Justin McDowell scored one a piece. Kevin Sheer stayed solid between the pipes giving the Razorbacks their first shut out of the season.

Auburn (1-3-0) and Arkansas will conclude their weekend series tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale, AR. Tickets are $6 for adults, $2 for students, and children under 10 get in for free.
