On Friday and Saturday, November 4-5, the Division III Razorback Hockey team (6-10-0) welcomes the Vanderbilt Commodores (4-1-1) to the Jones Center for a pair of crucial conference tilts.  Coming off of a challenging trip to Nebraska, the Razorbacks look to get back to their winning ways against a talented Commodore hockey team.  While in Lincoln last weekend, the Hogs dropped pair of games to the Huskers by 9-3 and 7-1 margins.

As the Razorbacks challenged the Huskers, the Commodores were tangling with the Division I Frozen Tide.  In its biggest win to date, Vanderbilt defeated the Tide by a 3-1 (ENG) margin.  Among other victories, Vanderbilt has defeated Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and South Carolina.  Vanderbilt will make just its second trip to the Jones Center.  The Commodores last made the drive to Springdale on December 10, 2011, when the Hogs notched a 13-0 win.

More recently, the Hogs and Commodores split their regular season series last season.  On October 10, 2015, the Razorbacks defeated the Commodores by a narrow 2-1 margin before succumbing to Vanderbilt in game two the next day by a 5-0 margin.  The teams met again in the post-season last year when, in the third place game at the SECHC tournament, the Arkansas escaped with a 3-2 win.

The puck drops at 8:00 pm on Friday and 4:00 pm on Saturday.  Friday night is “Pink the Rink” where students with their ID get in free.

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that Anthony Cebell and Parker Tillson have formally committed to play at Arkansas.

Anthony Cebell, a 5’9, 195lb., forward from Garland, Texas, played his high school hockey for Plano East & Love Joy Varsity.  In his senior season, Cebell notched two goals and added an assist in 20 games played.  Said Cebell, “I chose Arkansas because I’ve heard only great things about the program and I want to contribute to the team’s success.”  He added, “I’m very excited to be able to play a high level of hockey while I study for my future in mechanics.”

For his part, forward Parker Tillson (5’11″, 165 lb.) joins the Razorback Hockey program from The Woodlands High School.  Tillson compiled 3 goals and 5 assists in 25 games during his senior season with the Highlanders. Said Tillson, “I chose Arkansas because the campus and University really suit me and I know the hockey program is going to test me and push me to maximize my abilities.”  TIllson added, “I’m looking forward to playing in a high quality, high intensity program with other players who love the game as much as I do.”

Cebell and Tillson become the twenty-first and twenty-second players in a 16-17 recruiting class that has ten different states represented (Texas, Mississippi, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, Kansas, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Missouri, and California) and players with experience in nine different junior leagues (NA3HL, EHL, NAHL, MnJHL, SJHL, MJAHL, WSHL, GMHL, and USPHL).  He joins the following players:

The 15-16 season was the first for the Arkansas hockey program fielding two teams.  The Division I team finished #21–the highest finish in ACHA history for any team in its first DI season after moving from DIII.  The team’s #21 finish also gave Arkansas the best finish of any of the five teams that made the jump to Division I this season.  Meanwhile, Division III’s twenty-eight win season was good for third in the SECHC and tenth in the Pacific Region.

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that Michael Moore has formally committed to play at Arkansas.  A 5’8″ 160 lb. goaltender from Charlotte, North Carolina, Moore has compiled junior experience the past two seasons in the USPHL.  A 1998 birth year, Moore has suited up for the Richmond Generals and most recently logged time with the Chicago Cougars of the USPHL (pictured).  Prior to his junior career, Moore posted a 9-0-4 record in the 2013-14 season for Union County East High School, where his team won a league championship that season and he was selected to the All-Star game.

Said Moore, “I’m impressed with the goals the coaching staff has set for this team, and excited to be a part of reaching those goals.”  Moore also commented, “[n]ot only does the University of Arkansas offer a great hockey program, it also offers a great engineering program with state of the art labs.”

Moore becomes the eleventh player in a 16-17 recruiting class that now has eight different states represented (Texas, North Carolina, New Jersey, Kansas, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Missouri, and California).  He joins the following players:

The University of Arkansas is the only SEC school to field two hockey teams.  The 15-16 season marked the program’s inaugural season at Division I, which produced the highest finish in ACHA history for any team in its first DI season after moving from DIII.  Meanwhile, the Division III team boasts five SECHC conference titles and three appearances at the National Tournament.

The 2016-17 Division I & III schedules will be released in early summer.  All home games are played at The Jones Center for Families in Springdale.

On Friday, December 4, the #23 DI Razorbacks (12-11-1) took on the #21 Missouri State Ice Bears in Springfield, Missouri.  After staking a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, the Ice Bears tied things up in the second.  With the score tied 1-1 entering the third, a pair of final frame goals sent the Hogs onto a 3-1 win.  Arkansas looks for the sweep against the Bears on Saturday at 7 pm.  The game will be broadcast live on Web Sports Radio.

Meanwhile, back home, the DIII Razorbacks (20-1-1, #5 Pacific) earned a 6-3 win over DII Kansas.  A game that began as a see-saw affair saw the Hogs trailing 2-1 in the third period.  But a 5 goal outburst in the third period, including a final empty-net goal, earned the Hogs a 6-3 victory and the team’s twentieth win on the season.  The DIII Razorbacks are home again on Saturday afternoon, December 5, at 4 pm for Senior Night.  Fans who are unable to attend the game can listen live on the program’s Mixlr feed.

The #24 DI Razorbacks (6-9-0) take on the University of Alabama (2-5-0) at home on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm.  The Hogs enter the weekend after a successful trip to Colorado that saw the team notch wins over #4 Colorado, Metro State (DIII), and the University of Northern Colorado (DII).  The trio of wins propelled the team back into the national rankings scene after a three week hiatus.

For its part, the University of Alabama enters the weekend with two wins over West Virginia and losses to Missouri State, Illinois, and Illinois State (the only common opponent between Arkansas and Alabama).  Like Arkansas, Alabama is a first year Division I team, but the two teams are no stranger to one another.  The historically heated rivalry dates back to 2008 when the Tide swept the inaugural series.

The back and forth series last convened in November of 2014 in Pelham, Alabama, when Alabama defeated Arkansas 6-5 in game one and the two teams skated to a 4-4 tie in game two.  Friday night’s game will feature a “Pink Out” with the University of Arkansas School of Law.  Fans will have the opportunity to purchase commemorative limited edition pink team t-shirts when purchasing tickets.

Meanwhile, the DIII Razorbacks get on the road to renew acquaintances with another familiar rival, Ole Miss.  The DIII Hogs take on the Rebels at 9:15 pm on Friday and 4:15 pm on Saturday, both in Olive Branch, MS.  The 10-1-1 DIII Razorbacks enter the weekend after an unexpected TCU two-game forfeit.

The Rebels enter the weekend with an uncharacteristic 2-6-0 record.  A three-time Nationals qualifier, the Rebels last notched a pair of wins against Georgia Tech by identical 6-4 scores on October 16 & 17.  The Rebels are led in scoring by Dan Warnecke (8G, 5A) and Conor Silk (4G, 2A).

The two teams last met on October 24 & 25, 2014 when the Razorbacks earned 8-2 and 3-1 wins.  Ole Miss last defeated Arkansas on November 30, 2012, by a 4-1 score.  The DIII Hogs close out their road trip on Sunday with an early morning (8am) tilt against Mississippi State.

The Razorbacks today announced their 2015-16 schedule for the team’s 9th season in the American Collegiate Hockey Association and first at Division I. The schedule features a fan-friendly home slate of 19 weekend games at The Jones Center for Families in Springdale.

Fresh off an SECHC Championship and the most successful National Tournament berth in the Razorback Hockey history, the Razorbacks are already looking ahead to their first Division I schedule–a fierce 37 game regular season slate. The regular season begins with an exciting September lineup that starts with a first ever Sunday matinee matchup against Augustana on Sunday, Sept. 13 at the Jones Center.

The Razorbacks begin their first campaign in the Western Collegiate Hockey League the next weekend on the road against WCHL rival, Oklahoma. The Razorbacks then host two conference rivals at the Jones Center, the University of Colorado on Oct. 2 & 3 and defending National Champion University of Central Oklahoma on Oct. 9 & 10.

Highlights throughout the remainder of the season include a home tilt against Alabama on Oct. 30 & 31 at the Jones Center and rounding out 2015 with a pair of games against Illinois State on Nov. 6 & 7 and Midland on Nov. 13 & 14.

The Razorbacks schedule also includes a lengthy homestand throughout the months of January and February. Dating to Jan. 22, the Razorbacks will play 8 games at the Jones Center leading up to the National Tournament, hosted by Robert Morris-Illinois, where the Razorbacks look for their first ever appearance.

VIEW 2015-16 FULL SEASON SCHEDULE

The Razorback Hockey team is excited to announce that Sean Danahy has formally signed to play at Arkansas.  A 5’10″ goaltender from Abington, Massachusetts, Danahy backstopped the Suffolk University Rams last season and will transfer to Arkansas for his sophomore year.

A Xaverian Brothers High School alum, Danahy played for the Boston Junior Rangers of the MJHL before enrolling at Suffolk.  Said Danahy, “I am truly excited about joining the Razorback Hockey Program.  Even before visiting, I was impressed with what I heard about the program, coaches, and facilities.”  About joining the hockey program, he added, “after viewing things firsthand, I must say that it really exceeded my expectations. I’m very much looking forward to becoming a member of the Razorback Family.”

Since 2009, the Arkansas hockey program has amassed an overall record of 161-48-4, including three trips to the Division III National Tournament and five SECHC conference playoff tournament championships.  The program will field two teams next season–one at the Division I level (WCHL) and one at the Division III level (SECHC).
