This past weekend the Division One Ice Hogs were on the road in Arizona. On Thursday October 12, 2017, the team faced #20 Sun Devils from Arizona State University. The Hogs got on the board early in the first period thanks to a goal from senior captain James Haddock, assisted by captain Landyn Howze. By the end of the first period the Sun Devils had evened things up 1-1. In the second period the Sun Devils managed to ring up three more goals against the Ice Hogs making the score 4-1 going into the third period. Ultimately the Hogs fell to the Sun Devils 5-1.
On Friday, October 13, the Hogs played their first of two games on the weekend against the #16 Wildcats from the University of Arizona. It was all Wildcats in this one until 7:56 in the second period when senior captain James Haddock scored his second goal of the weekend to make the score 3-1, he was assisted by Cal Owens. With under a minute left in the second, the Hogs were on the board again thanks to the team’s leading scorer Luc Gradisar. Gradisar was assisted by Cory Delisle. Although the Hogs trailed the Wildcats 3-2 entering the third period, the Wildcats were able to score two more goals in the third period to secure a 5-2 win.
On Saturday October 14, 2017, the Division I Hogs played their final game of the weekend against the Wildcats from Arizona. The Razorbacks were on the board first thanks to a goal by senior captain Jacob Brown, assisted by newcomer Sine Chadi. The Wildcats then responded with two goals of their own. With fewer than five minutes left in the first, Jacob Brown tied things up for the Hogs on an unassisted goal and his second of the night. The Wildcats would get on the board first in the second period–leading the Hogs 3-2. The Hogs answered back with two goals of their own in the second period. Goals by junior captain Collin Young and the team’s leading scorer Luc Gradisar gave the Hogs a 4-3 lead going into the third period. But the Wildcats dominated the third period–scoring four more goals. The Hogs cut into the three goal deficit with one minute remaining in the game thanks to a goal by Luc Gradisar, assisted by Cory Delisle. The Hogs fell to the Wildcats 7-5. The Division I Razorbacks return to action this weekend in Ames, Iowa, against the Iowa State University Cyclones.
The Division III Ice Hogs were back at home this past weekend facing the Bears from Missouri State University. The Hogs had revenge on their mind after losing to the Bears earlier this season in the Pacific Region Showcase. On Friday October 13th, the Hogs played their first of two games for the weekend against the Bears at the Jones Center. The Hogs got on the board first in the first period thanks to a goal scored by Matt Lasky, assisted by Trey Lowry and senior captain Andrew DeNome. The Hogs again got on the board in the first thanks to a goal by Trey Lowry, assisted by Matt Lasky and Andrew DeNome. Less than a minute into the second period Matt Lasky scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Zach Palmer and Trey Lowry. The Hogs won the game against the Bears 3-0 as rookie goalie Jozsef Dusenka recorded his first shutout of the season.
On Saturday, October 14th, the Hogs faced the Bears for their second game of the weekend at the Jones Center. The Hogs came into the game looking to continue their hot streak from the night before. After a scoreless first frame, Arkansas scored the first goal of the game with two minutes left in the period. Then, just before the end of the period, the Hogs were on the board again thanks to a last minute goal by Zach Palmer. Then just two minutes into the third period, Brooks Moore put the Hogs on the board again giving them a 3-0 lead. Four minutes later, Trey Lowry scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Zach Piekarski. Less than a minute later, Matt Lasky scored his third goal of the season, assisted by Andrew DeNome, to push the Arkansas lead to 5-0. For the second night in a row, rookie goalie Jozsef Dusenka recorded a shutout for the Ice Hogs.
The Division III Razorbacks return home tomorrow to face the Kansas Jayhawks.
